You Don't Have to Live This Way

Freebo was Bonnie Rait's bass player for a long time, and he just released his first solo record. "You Don't Have to Live This Way" was to be the first single, so Charley Pavlosky was brought in to direct the video for the song.

We shot it in two 1/2 days. The budget was pretty small, but Charley made the most of it. The story line required moody and expressive lighting, and there are some visual effects in the piece. We green screened Freebo into the world of the main character, whose life is going down hill.

There's also some concert footage, which was a challenge, because we were not allowed to come in for a prelight, so I made use of existing lights and came up with a nice, "clubby" look for the live footage.

There are some shots in the main character's home which came out very well, bringing home the guy's depressed, lonely existance. The project is still in post, but should be released with the single.
