Tahara

This 35mm short film is a story of a cross cultural conflict within an Egyptian family, revolving around the subject of female circumcision. Althought it's a touchy subject, the film focuses on the mother of a little girl, torn between tradition (represented by the Grandmother) and modern ways (represented by the Aunt).

I shared the job of camera operator with my friend Aiken Weiss, SOC. Tahara required hand held, dolly, and jib shots with Hot Gears during the 12 day shoot.
Mark Gutterud was the director of photography, and Brad Lipson gaffed the show. My good friend Caleb Poynter filled in for Brad on several days as well.
